Our Silences Europe

Our Silences is an itinerant sculpture created to make us reflect on the importance of free speech and self-censorship. It intends to incite an intimate dialogue with the spectator on one of the most fundamental human rights and, at the same time, to establish a symbolic interchange with the places where it is shown.

Jugando con fuego, serie II

This serie of reliefs focuses mainly on a cycle of relations between play and death.

El juego y la muerte han estado estrechamente unidos en la historia humana. En algunas ocasiones el juego permite entender o aceptar la muerte sin que intermedie el dolor; en otras lo lúdico implica correr riesgos que terminan en la muerte y el dolor. De esta forma se establece un ciclo entre ambas prácticas.

Roots / Urban monumental installation

Roots is a monumental intervention in the urban space which connected buildings, museums, squares, and archeological sites in the very heart of Mexico City. This work intervened the historical memory of public spaces and shows how society from different times has conceived differently that same space.

Playing with fire, Serie III

This series delves into the ambivalent relationship between play and danger, the work consists of a set of reliefs composed of incinerated wood and small explosives of popular use in Mexico called “palomas”. This piece is built with newspaper clippings whose selection serves the symbolic power of its contents printed: photographs, drawings, words, letters and numbers. These images are intervened in turn with drawings in Chinese ink to make a playful and ironic critique establishing a symbolic game by deciphering the relationships that establish some images with others.

The work is a visual metaphor of the incessant process of destruction and reconstruction of society. Collective suicide symbolizes the persistence of a community that coexists, grows, celebrates and destroys itself through the action and interdependence of those who make it up.

Individual memory

«Individual memory» is a conceptual metaphor of the human experience.

Each human being explores the world as an individual from birth, until death, and this interaction with the environment leaves indelible signs and marks that little by little shape the character of people.

Our Silences: San Diego, California, USA.

After remaining two years out of public, Our Silences was presented for the first time in the American Union in January 2015, with the support of the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The city of San Diego was chosen as the first exhibition venue.

The observatory

Some of the projects that are developed at the Mexico City studio take years to become a solid public exhibition, this project will be exhibited in 2018.

You – Trafalgar Square, London, United Kingdom 2015

The artwork was conceived to question the difficult concept of equality. The monumental white sculpture is made of bronze and is located in two places: physical space and memory.

In the physical space, the You interacts with its surroundings and triggers all kinds of reactions in the spectators, who relate to it physically. In the realm of imagination, it captures the meaning of pointing at the other, of being equal and different at the same time. What is the real meaning of equality?

Whose army? CDMX, 2016.

The sculptor Rivelino will be in charge of closing this first edition of Obra en Obra with his intervention entitled ¿El ejército de quién?, made with 10,000 gold-colored soldiers who establish symbolic relations between the figures that are formed with them and the situations in which they were placed, around other objects also symbolic. The artist has drawn a series of long lines that relate to each other and to these figures, establishing a kind of connection with the activities performed by the armies in the world.
